# Affidavit Overview

An affidavit is a written statement where the affiant attests to the truthfulness of the document. It is used in various legal actions, such as bankruptcies, wills, and divorces.

**Contents:**

- **Statement of Truth:** The affiant provides a sworn statement confirming that the facts are accurate to their knowledge.
- **Witnessed:** The affidavit must be signed and witnessed by a notary or legal officer.

**Requirements:**

- **Voluntary:** Affidavits must be made voluntarily, without coercion.
- **Signed:** The affiant must sign the document, usually in the presence of a notary public.
- **Notarized:** Notarization confirms the affidavit’s authenticity, with requirements varying by jurisdiction.
